■ ^ . During 1948 a total of 190 births' were recorded in. Levin by the registrar, Mr. H„ J. Henderson. This .s a de'crease on the previous year's ,otal of 222, which "was' a pheno.nenally high figure brought about m all probability .by the high mar.iage figures immediately preceding .he war. Marriage licences were issued to 71 persons, as against 79 n 1947, and there were'nine marriage ceremonies cphducted -by the registrar in comparisoh with five the preyious year. Deaths for 1948, as in 1947, totalled 69. The following are the figures for December, 1948, comparative figures for the same period in 1947 oeing shown in parentheses:— Births, 19 (18); deaths, 5 (6) ; marriages, 5 (1) ; marriages by reglsurar, nil (nil).
