Small Stock Yarding Meets Keen Demand
For the opening stock sale of the ,NeW Year, held at Levin yesterday, - there were small yardings in all sections and in consequence the demand throughout was keen. Fat' wethers sold on a. par with Values at recent saies, while fat ewes and lambs were in small supply and returned prices slightly above schedule rates. Fat hoggets met with a readier sale than has oeen the case recently. . The entry of pigs was considerably lighter than usual and competition for porkers and baconers was spirited. Ko dairy oj> store cattle were yarded. Vealers changed hands at recent rulings, while the balance of the entry, consisting of fat P.A. and Hereford heifera, met with a ready sale. A pen of fat ex-dairy - cows sold at schedule rates. The following is a range of the P4ces realised,:— Sheep: Prime fat ewes, 27s 4d to 27s lOd; prime heavy fat wethers, , £2 2s 7d to £2 4s, 10d; prime do», 39s 6d to £2 0s lOd; medium do., 38s 4d to 38s lOd; prime b.f. wethers, 39s lOd to £2 Os 4d; fat lambs, 34s ld to 35s 4d; prime fat hoggets, 39s lOd to 40s 4d; medium do., 35s IGd .to 37 lOd. Pigs: Prime porkers, £4 19s to £5 10s; medium do., £4 8s to £4 10s; prime baconers, £5 lls to £5 18s* medium do., £5 3s to £5 9s; choppers, £3 10s to £4. Cattle: Prime vealers, £6 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d; medium do., £5 17s 6d to £6 7s 6d; prime P.A. heif ers, £15 2S 6d to £15 17s 6d: medium do.,; £11 2s 6d to £13 12s 6d; prime P.A and Hereford cows, £10 12s 6d to £10 17s 6d; fat ex-dairy cows £7 2S 6d to £7 17s 6d. .
