South Island Yacht Leaves For Tasman Race

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 5. Heeling along briskly under a fresh north-easterly breeze, the Miranda, owned and skipnered by Mr. Frank Dumergue, o'f Christchurch, and first South Island entrant for the trans-Tasman yaCht race, .cleared Lyttelton Heads at 11.30 this morning on the first lap of the long run to Sydney. As the Miranda drew away from the wharf ships in the port hooted the^r sirens. Shortly before her departure, a bottle of champagne was broken over the bow. With Mr. Dumergue as crew are Sergeant Dennie Wilkes, of the Poiice Force, Mr. Douglas Varnham, licensee of the Albion Hotel, Lyttelton, and Bruce Collett, the popular young Lyttelton yachtsman. All the crew have had extensive sailing experlehce.
