The 'Maori ' Queen Committee stag'ed • a suceessf u! card evening and dancC at the Raukawa Hall on Friday night. A good crowd attend- j ed and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Danee music was supplied by the Queen, Miss Makuinii Ransfield, and by Mr. B. Crowley, who also carried out the duties of M.C. Card winners were Mrs. N. Downey and Miss P. Roach, and "Messrs. R. Nicholls and J. Winterburn. Competition winners were Mrs. R. Royal and Mr. C. Ropata. Two of the winners gave their prizes back to be played for at the next similar function. Good business. was transacted at the carnival opening- at Tasman Beach on Saturday afternoon and again at night, when the various sideshows were well patronised. There were one or two inactive, but this will be remedied. Apparently the organlsers were fully occupied in, preparing floats and other entrfes for Saturday's procession, and time did not permit having everything in readiness for the opening. All credit is due to those responsible for accomplishing what was done. There was plenty of variety and many patrons are reported to have left without the small change they took with them. The executive treasurer. Mr. Edhouse, acknowledges a donation of £5 from Barton's Circus and £5 5s from "The Chronicle." It is announced that the 100 votes won by the Bandoliers marching team for their prizewinning float would be dividedequally among the five queens.
