Keen Sale For Christmas Poultry
The Christmas stock sale in ! Levin yesterday saw a large yarddng of fat lambs, approximately ; 800 being brought forward. They isold well and practically a total jclearance was effected. In the pig section there was a capacity entry, light porkers and sucking pigs being in keen demand, heavier sorts selling at recent market rates. The cattle section comprised mainly vealers, with a few fat P.A. and Hereford heifers and cows completing the yarding. Vealers were not sought after so keenly as in previous saies, while fat heifers ah'd cotws maintained a steady sale. The usual large yarding of Christmas poultry met with a keen sale. The followihg is a range of prices realised: — Pigs: Heavy porkers, £5 12s to £5 17s; medium do., £4 11s to £5; lighter do., £3 13s to £4 3s; heavy baconers, £5 9s to £5 11s; medium do., £4 18s to £5 6s; Sucking pigs, 35s to 36s 6d. 'Cattle: Prime vealefs, £7 2§ 6d to £9 17s 6d; medium^do-.. £5 12s 6d tb £6 7s 6d; lighter do., £4 to £4 12s 6d; fat P.A. and Hereford heifers, £16 2§ 6d to £18 15s; fat P.A. and Hereford cows, £14 17s 6d to £16. Sheep: Prime heaVy lambs, 36s 7d to 37s 4d; prime lambs. 34s lOd to 35s lOd; medium do., 33s 7d to 33s lld; lighter do., 31s lOd to 32s 4d;- prime h.f. hoggets, 39s 7d to 41s 4d; medium do., 38s 1 to 38s 7d; prime heavy white faced- hoggets, 42s 4d; medium do.; 40s lOd; prime ewes, 27s lOd to 28s lOd. Poultry: Ducks, 5s 9d. 6s to 7s; geese, 10s, 11s to 12s; hens* 3s 6d, 4§, 5s 3d, 5s 6d to 7s; cockerels, 4s 9d to 5s 6d. .
