Variety Entertainment Under "Big Top"

Barton's international circus knd wild west show held its opening performance under the, "big top" in Levin last night. A variety of the acts presented, together with -the never absent clowns, provided excellent entertainment for some hundreds of people, young and old. ' From the grand parade the circus was carried through smoothly and without a delay. Many -of the acts were spectacular, some thrilling land others dare^-devol. but all held the interest *of the crowd. ■One item partlcularly, combined all three.- This was the nerformance of Maximo, the trick cyclist. His demonstrations of :balancing and riding were amazing to the avefage watcher. Astride a 12 foot uni-cycle, a machine "with only one wheel and a long pole with seat and pedals at the top he seemed to be ' a visitqr from another world as he balanced craZily high in the air' in his demonstration of a drunken cyclist. The Leotards, an acrobatic tearn of two men and one women, presented an act which was also worthy of mention, Thei-r performance included a feat in which the -girl, suspended by her legs from the trapeze bars, held the feet of one of the men, the other in turn being suspended by a cord which he held in. his teeth. I Elimar, the juggler, provided one of the most skllful pieces of entertainment in the sho'w. His was undoubtedly the act which claimed attention because- of Dts precision timed accuracy and difflculty of presentation. He has to be seen to be appreciated. These and many other artists made up the circus. The rodeo and equine sectlon was particularly good. Barton's circus will present a : further y evening's entertainment tonight at 8 p.m. It is located ou "the •corner of Queen Street and Queenwood Road. '
