COLLEGE YEAR ENDS
Successful Pupils Presented With Prizes Yesterday was a red letter dayi for pupils of the Horowhenua College for it marked the end-of year prize-giving ceremony, a function which was denied them last year because of the outbreak of paralysis. For some it was a new experience in their college life and for others it marked the severance of their happy post-primary school days, while for still others an important step in their academic studies. In his address, the chairman of, : Ihe College AdvrSory "Committee, ! Mr. F. H. Hudson, congrat.ulated !
the prize winners and urged the 1 others to retaln their vision and maintain their zeal by a ste.ady application to their work, even ; though it migh't not result in the : winning of prizes. It was infinitely better, he_said, to gain a good : character and a bright personality. ; In a few words to those who were, leaving, the speaker" reminded ; them that the college was young; and that much of the mouMing of tradition was resting on the early pupiis. "Forty years on we hope to hold our jubilee and we hope that many of the first decade pupiis will be present and showing evidence of the good work; they are doing in the community, or for their -country in. general." Another speaker, Mr. T. G. Vincent, said that he hoped that to those who were going to their chosen vocations, the impetus of their past college days would carry thenl on. He urged them to make usefulness and co-operation ^ a major :part of their future lives and to take over the responsibilities as well as the privi'leges; He had the utmost • confidence . in the rising generation to do, in' the main, the right thing. Christmas carols and a cborus from the "Pirates of Penzance" were contributed by the pupiis, led by Miss A. Brownine. during the prize-giving ceremony and also items by the school or-chestra.
