Australian Film Studio To British Interests

Ealing Studios has bought the Fagewood film studio in Sydney, which Oinesound Productions Pty. Ltd. owned. Mr. Eric Williams, who is general nianager in Australia for Ealing .Studios, said that his conipany would probabJy .spend £25,000 to ht Pagewood for continuous production. ' Mr. Williams was just back from England, where he diseussed the expansion of the lilm industry in Australia with Sir Micliael Balcon and Major Reginald Baker, directors of Ealing Studios Ltd. He said new sound and camera equipm«nt would be brought from England and generating plants would be pexmanently installed at Pagewood. The company would use Australian-made equipment where "possible, provided the standard was satisfactory. Australia had proved _she could produce world-class films and would now be expected to supply her share of pietures for oversea distribution. £,Since seeing 'Eureka Stockade,' Sir Michael Balcon is satisfied with onr work and will give ns everything to produce big-seale films continuously, " Mr. Williams added. "Films made in Australia need not be confined to Australian stories. The inereasing de'mand for British films makes it necessary for Australia to step-up production and possibly produce some ■ of the overflow films fro'm Ealing in London."
