Plunket Society Holds Garden Party
Rather unpleasant weather conditions were experiericed. by the Shannon Plunket Society 's coiximittee when a garden party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F. Edmonds, Stout Street, on Saturday afternoon. The grounds were ideally laid out for such, a function and those present. were kept interested by .a series of games :and eompetitions 'designed for the dbuible .purpose of ehtertainment and helping to swell the funds of the society. All present .enjoyed the entertainment and patronised the "well-stocked stalls of produce, cakes, ice creanr and sewing, so -that moSt workers could report excellent. business. Father Christmas was installe'd in a wonderfully realistic magic ' cave, decorated in traditional Christmas style, and so eager were the younger generation to meet him that he emptie'd his sack of gifts early in the afternoon. A co'mmittee of women then took charge of the children and in another part of the grounds a programme of races and games,, followed by the 'distribution of 'soft drinks and sweets, kept the young folk happy, leaving the mothers free to enjoy their afternoon. The afternoon tea arrarigements were excellent and the willing band of workers were kept very busy, It is to be regrette'd that heavy rain setting in at about * 4 o'clock brought an untimely end to a well organised function. The winners of the eompetitions held during the afternoon were as follows:— Putting: Mrs; H. Stern; other eompetitions: Miss B. Miers, Mrs. S. Spencer, Miss B. Dujany, Mrs. D. A. Fitzgerald an-d Mrs. W. Moynihan.
