Two English Farm Hands As Siowaways
AUCKLAND, Dec. 8. Arrested on the arrival of the Aorangi, two fiaxen-haired Englishmen, David' John Drury, aged ?0, and Geoffrey Robert Martin Kendall, aged 20, farm hands, pleaded guilty in the Police Court mday to stowing away. The police said that they arrived in Canada' from Birmingham in July, followed the harvest across the country, found there were thousands of unemployed in Vanjouver, and boarded the Aorangi. Both were of a decent type. Drury had £20 and Kendall £8. " Drury .toid the magistrate, Mr. J. Morling, that they worked their way on the ship and were anxious to remain in New Zealand to do farm work. The magistrate said that iru view of the difficulties encountered, he would hot send them to prison. He admitted them to twelve months' probation under the direction of the probation officer, each to pay 125 towards their -fare.
