Bakery Gutted By Fire
GISBORNE, Dec. 8. A bakery in Ruatoria owned by Mr. J. McDermott was gutted by fire in the early hours of this morning, but the fire brigade saved the adjoinirig buildings. While Mr. McDermott was l.ighting the oil fuel burner under an oven it exploded, knocking » him down and spraying burning oil over the bakery. Although pa'rtially stunned by the blast Mr. McDermott unavailingly endeavoured to suppress the flames, but the fire had a strong hold when the brigade arriVed. The building and fittings were practically all destroyed.
