School Sports Several of the Levin School's annual sports fixtures are to be eonducted during the next week and parents and friends are invited to attend them. The primary school athletic sports take place at the Levin Park Domain tomorrow afternoon, while the infants' fixturo will be hel'd next Tuesday afternoon. The swimming sports are to be eonducted on Tuesday mQrning. School Washing Facilities Emphasising the iinportance of adequate washing facilities at all schools, particuiarly in view of the poliomyelitis epidemic, the Department of Education asked the Wanganui Education Board yesterday to take steps to ensure that all facilities necessary were provided. The architect, Mr. L. S. Barsanti, will prepare a report on the facilities available and submit it to the next meeting of the board. Cleaning Of Domain How it had taken two m'en four and a hah hours to clean up the Levin Park Domain after a function there recently, was mentioned by the borough overseer, Mr. E. Lycette, at Mon'day's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr, H. B. Burdekin, suggested that persons holding gala days should be asked to arrange for the rough cleaning of the groun'ds afterwards, as the council could not be expected to be "out of pocket" through letting the grounds. It was decided that users of the grounds should in future be advised accordingly. Big Roatl Works To Start Reconstruction work on the Longburn-Tangimoana highway is to start today, according to i"nformation given at yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu County Council. Tliis is the road which was the subject of tenders many thousands of pounds in excess of the estimates. The council decided to proceed with the work with iifcs own staff and plant and has succeeded in obtaining the labour required to assist. The work will proceed in sections and it is expected that it will be accomplished at a cost within the original estimate. "Hotting" Up Cricfeet "That will be handy; maybe I can take my heater alopg with me to cricket matches," ^aid a member of the Levin Borough Council when it was agreed to allow the Amateur Athletic arid Cycling Club to instal a hot point in the stand at the Levin Park Domain for the convenient operatiOn of a public address system. "And football," said another mefnber. Unfortunately the new fixture will not benefit patrons of either sport, because it was poihted out that the hot point Would be controlled by a switch inside the stand, and would consequently not constitute a dangef to anyone attempting to interfere with it. « S
