Residents Offer To Make Own Footpath
Four residents in McHenzie : Strefet last night sought from the j Levin Borough Council the formation of a footpath on the western side of the street, between Keepa Street and Beach Road, in whifeh work they stated they were prepared to assist. They were said to have stated that if the council took the levels and put in the kerbing and_ channelling, they would be prfepared tb do the other work. 1 The oversefer, Mr. E. Lyfeette, said that they were keen to make | the street respectable and would like to asphalt the footpath when ■ fbrriied. Perhaps a light tar skin feould be put dov/n until qoncrete was available, continued Mr. Lycette. | Tne Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, isaid that the council had to stand by its policy of allowing only confcrete footpaths. It was good to fencburagfe pfeople, but the council had to encourage them along the right lines. I It was dfecided that the "residents ibe interviewed, and the council's | requirements in regard to such work made known to them and a .further report prfeSented at the nfeXt meeting of thfe cotmcil.
