Building Work In Levin Maintained

' One'rather in'terestirig point was that some outside builders had commenced work in Levin, commented the buiiding inspector, Mr. H. T. Tilyard, in a" report- to last night's meeting of the Levin Borough CounCil. At present they were engaged in • constructihg dwellings for their own use. Buiiding work in the town had been maintsiined during the month of November, said Mr. Tilyard. In that period 14 dwellings had been started and also one' buiiding for a laundry and sevefal laddifcions and sheds. Five dwdl- ! lin^s had been completed. Against vh.s number, however, there were probably 20 or more occupied, the hold up being in the finishing of the exterior piaster, plasterihg and spouting being the ma.ior problems. " A summary of the State housing position in Levin showed that four firms were engaged in this work and 49 units > (five double) were under conStrudtion. They are in the folloWing stages; Occupied, 1; completed, 1; roofed, 25; ready fof roof, 5; framed, 2 ; • f oundations laid^ 11. . since April 1 last 79 permits of an aggre'gate value- of £134,347 have been issued for new private dwellings. For the same period last year the total was 48 permits of a value. of £79,681. These figures, woqld indicate that-" 'buiiding activity this year is even more extensive than last year, which j was a record.„. '
