Trampers jlpend Weekend ,0n Tararua Ranges , In variable but good weather, a mixed party of trampers from the Levin-Waiopehu ' Tramping Club imade another return crossing of the Tararua Ranges at. t'he weekend. Leaving the Mangahao top dam, the party proceeded up Atkinson Ridge, which leads to the; open ; tussock-covered tcps, and after a : few hours of easy grade the top of |Mt. Ngapuketarua was reached. A wind of gaie force was encountered while negotiating ''the Putara j Ridge, but this lessened consider - !ably as the party descended to the !flats of' the Mangatainoka Valley, ! where a camp was made in the bush surroundings. Bright sunshine, with an absence of wind, gre'eted tne party the following morning when the 'return trip was commenced, and a |steady ciimb up Schormann Track jended on the summit of Kareti, j where otservations were made of the surrounding country. Following another boil-up on /Atkinson Ridge, the party des1 cended to Baker's Creek, where • bathing was enjcyed. A few minutes' walk to tne dam completed another interesting weekend.
