AUCKLAND, Doc. jl. The raising . of the New Zealand pouiid to .parity with sterling has had a serious effect on the export, of fish from' New Zealand to Australia, said the chairnian of directors qf Sanford Ltd., Mr: A. F. Jagger, at, the annnal meeting, This was partly due to the •faet that it was not possible to . increase Australian selling prices by the equivalent of 25 per cent. and partly beeause South African fish would eontinue to go into, Australia on its previous price basis. Ways and means were being discussed within the industry in New Zealand to overcome part of the added costs. With mbre frequent and regular refrigerated shipping from New Zealand to Austmlia, said Mr. Jagger, it was anticipated that; hand-' ling, freight and storage costs, would not be so great on expor table fish as in the past two years. With the 'return of the Aorangi, Wanganella and Monowai to the Tasman service and the re]jlacemont of the Wakakura by the Viti, a vessel of much greater refrigerated capacitv, the company should be able to forward export fish much more frequently than for some time pastv If the companv was able to continue to inerease its turnover, it should also help to meet the diffieulties brought. about by the exchange alteration.
