TAIHAPE, DeC. 2. A rriotion to cease afhliation with the New Zealand Marching Union and seek afhliation with the New Zealand Marching Association was defeaied on the casting vote of the chairman at a meeting Of the Taihape Giris' Marching Association last night/ after hearing addresses by Mr. K. W. Kilpatrlck, for the association, and Mr. C. T. Youllg, of Wanganui, for the union. Both speakers dealt With matters relating to the decision Of a conference at Wanganui in April for a merger of these organisations and the( subSequent breakdown of negotiations. The speakers agreed that one body to cohtroi marching was desirable, but for the union it was .stated that the. basis of the merger was unfair. There was a difference in the interpretation of the merger resolution, and Mr, Young pointed out that the. union was denied representation- at the annual meeting of the association, Mr. Kilpatrick produced correspondence to show that the uniort was given ample time to arrange representation. Commenting. on this matter today, the secretary of the Manawa tu .Centre of the New Zealand Marching Association, Mr. A. L. Dobson, said that subseqtient to the meeting One team resigned from the New zealand Marching tfnion and planned to hold a meeting next Monday night to fdrm a . branch of the association. Another team was in the process of formation and this would give the proposed new branch two teams, One team had already been granted affiiiation with the association' and would take part in "the open championships at Palmerston North on December 11.
