Large Additions To Plant Planned

WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. Plans for increasing the output Of the cement industry in New Zealand to 450,000 tons y^arly compared 'with the exTsting effective capacity of 275,000 tons, have been made b'y .^the three major COmpanies, according tp an..annquncement'made today by the chairmah ' Of the Golden. Bay Oeme'nt- 0oih- , pany, Mr, J. M. A. Ilott. . ; Following discussions with Oabi- ' het,. said-Mr. Ilott, the Golden Bay ; . Company, NWilson's Cemeht Company and the Milburn Lime and Cement Company were arranging substantial extensions of- plant which would cater for the full esti--mated demand for the next decade in ihe companies' rOspective territor'ies-,. and also provide an ample surplus capacity for emergencies, My. Ilott added that owing to the coal shortage and other problems, ihe highest production achieved iri: any yeaf in the past had been about 230,000 tons, so that the prdposed extension of plant by the three companies would provide about double the largest quantity of cement ever produeed, in New Zealand in any one year. The Government, he said, had assured the companies that the necessariy additional coal would be available. The Golden Bay Company pfoposed to instal additioiial plant at Tarakohe to produce a further 50,000 tons yeariy, "making the cdrttpany's total capacity 115,000 tons, as soon as it completed the establishment of its bulk shipping' f acilities, eoncluded Mr, Ilott.'
