Women At Bowls • There was an attendance of nine players of the Shannon Women's Bowling Club on the green on ladies' day last Tuesday afternoon, when the opportunity was taken to coach three new players. Association has .decided to hold its annual reunion and smoke concert in the Druids' Hau on Saturday, December 4. The branch has been fortunate in again obtaining the services of that popular toand of entertainer from Wellington, the Tin Hat Club. The" iunction should again prove popular with returned serVicemen. Murder, Not For Children The reason why children will iiot be permitted to ithe presentation of the drama, "Ladies in Retirement," which is to be staged in the Foxton Town. Hall shortly, is that a murder scene is reproduced on the stage in full view of the audience. The stage presentation is attracting interest in Sliannon and several would-he patrons have enquired as to why Children are not permitted to the production. ! A Good Run Of Whitebait There was an excellent run Of whitebait in the Manawatu River towards the end of last week and bver the weekend. On Friday the 'bait were running so thick that fishermen at Moutoa and Paiaka were successful in catching them by the bucketful. One Paika resident who 'did not have a net handy caught enough for a meal with his straw hat. The run, however, was short lived and late yesterday afternoon it was stated that there was just a normal run, with few good catches. Croquet Competition Match A match in the Sherwood Cup croquet competitions between Shannon and Levin on the Shannon green last Tuesday resulted ih a win for the visitors on the aggregate by 14 points. Individual scores, with Levin- players 'mentioned first, were: Mrs. Pine 26, Mrs. Bovis 12; Mesdames Mason and Holdaway 24, Mesdames Morrison and Thomson 26.. Play commenced at 9.15 a.m. and lunch provided by the local club was served in the clubhouse. A shower at mid-day int'errupted play for a short period.
