Feilding Resident's Car On Fire At Levin
A commentary in itself on the afleetion that their budgies hold in people's regard was afforded in the recital by a local resident of a mishap to their car, says the Feilding Express. They were travelling south and at Levin were having a eup Of tea at a relative's house when they noticed that a post girl was biowing her whistle shrilly and insistently. Their hastess looked out of tlie window and re-^ marked that a crowd had collect-" ed and smoke could be Seen. The post girl's whistle continued and, eventually going out, the visitors found the interior of their own par was badiy on fire. The whistle was the only means of giving the alafm as no one knew to whom the ear belonged or where to find the ovmer. In the meantime Levin residents had pulled out the burning front seat, "and," said the ovmer's wife, "fortunately heavd budgie who was in his cage on ffie back seat," her tone expressing more cOncern for the bird than the damage to the car. The fire was caused by a short circuit in a newly instalied battery. Fortunately the car was stationary at the time it ignited or there might ' have been human tragedy to -add to the tale.
