Anglican Guild's Annual Sale Of Work
The St. Mary's Anglip^n Cnpfild held its .annuul sale .oi work in the' St. Mary's Ha-li yesterday, There was an exeellent attendance apd among ' the visitors were CaPbh and Mrs. J. C. Davies, tthe' former having been vicar of for a long period prior to moving to Lower Hutt. Welcoming those present, Rev. G. B. Stote-Blandy extended a special .welcome to* Mr. and Mrs. Davies. They, he said, decled rio introductio'n, only a re-lntrotiuc-tf on and he was only too ; pleased to do that. Since Mr. Davies had ie'ft Levin he had won a .cannonisation, "added Mr. Stote-Blandy. It gave him great pleasure to be present to open the bazaar, said Mr, Davies. It had been very kjnd Of; Mr. Stofe-Blandy to refer to some dignity which had been conferred on him at some time. It seemed to him that one dignity gathered others, he commented. However, | he would not like t© harboUr in his heart the thought that he had been asked to be present because he was a Canon.' He knew that that was not so, he added" Mfi*. Davies expresSed the hope thAt the pazaar would- be most iSUOCessful and that all present would nave a happy afternoon. Bouquets of beautiful flowers were then presented to Mrs. Davie's by Hilary -Stote-Blandy and the president of the guild, Mrs. F. C. Lemmon.
The many stalis which iwapd the « walis of tfie haii were well patron- c jsed. Decorated with , howeps, j fereenery and streamers, they were , an attractive sight. As is ifsualjj there was the vicar's stall, Which was in charge of Mr. Stote-Blandy, ■. and Canon Davis expressed the i wish to, 'serve behind it, if onjy f,or !j ten minutes. He was Soon selling |: ihe many and varied articles on it: and at the same time edeavouring to greet his numerous old friends.; \ The afternoon tea tables were j. 'Set" out on the stage and looked'. Very attractive, each table being ; provided with a white cloth and a' Vase of bright spring flowers. Those in charge of the various atalls were as follows:— Vicar's stall: Mrs. G. Milne and Mr. Stote-Blandy; apron stall: Mesdames M. Mulcahy, A. Nichols and W. H. Gordon; cake stall: Mesdames W. K. Moaring and H. T. Tilyard; flower stall: Mesdames p. S^ewart and W. Dugu.d ; produce Stall: Mesdames J, Henderson and E. Phillips; fancy-work Stall: Mesdames W. Bull, F.. Den-l holm and E. Williams; . sweet andj ice-cream stall: Mesdames G..Glover^ and* H. Ju.- Jenkins; afternoon tea rooms : Mesdames T. C.( de Mey, H. Harvey, D. P. Todd, A. O. Powell, W. Dalzell, H. Dumbeil, A. Hayward, M. Lambeth and J. H. Tennant. By evening the stalis - were aimost cleared, but again there -was a good attendance. A variety programme was presented by some ■fcalented performers. * The'- various items were: — Highland flihg, Jeanfette Cottle and Delva Horn"; recitation, Barry Walker; Irish j ig, Noia Trotter and Kyra King; tap dance, Kyra King; orchestral items, Messrs. J. W. Hayfieid, M. H. Bqyce, H. L. Jenkins, G. R°. Lester and W. Strode-Penny. A humorous sketch, entitled "Tuj.'pih^ j Tall," which centred round a j scene in a dentist's surgery, was; produced by Miss B. Blenkhorn. Those taking part were Mi5S.es G. Rcwley, R. Tabor, M. Jenkins and A Todd and MesSrs. B. Mercer aP.d J. Norton. The accompanist was Mrs. R. Maher.
