Howe Has Thrown Off All Signs Of Soreness

MELBOURNE, Nov. 8. Howe has not been penalised for the Williamstown Cup at Flemington next Saturday in whicli his weight is 9.7. He is a certain starter if he is alright. His owner, Mr. J. Marshall, states that he has, improved greatly and has thrown off all signs of soreness. Since the Melhourne Cup he has heen given' saltwater treatment for an hour each day. He appeared at Mentone track on Saturday and strode a mile on the tan. His owner says that a definite decision ahout starting in the Williamstown Cup will not he made until after he works on Thursday. If he runs H. Badger will he the rider. That jockey intends to retire after the meeting on Saturday. He has heen the leading jockeyin Melhourne . for several years and has ridden the winner of almost every important race with the exception of the Victoria Derhy and Melhourne Cup. Badger states that he intends to take a trip to England with his t wife in January. If opportunity offers he may ride in that country.
