Striking Miners Comply With State's Terms
SYDNEY, Nov,? 8. Within a few minutes of the deadline set hy the State and Pederal Governments, the miners* central control council deeided this afternoon to recommend that work will he resumed in all New South Wales coal mines tomorrow. The miners have deeided to comply with the terms laid down hy the Governments which said that when the miners returned to work, a special arbitration tribunal would he established to determine the Kemeira issue. The resumption order will include miners on the South Coast who have been on strike since October 6. The Miners5 Central Council' s recommendation that work be resumed was an unanimous one. A senior New South Wales Minister: "This is a complete triumph for the Government.'5 In Canhdrra, Mr. Chifley said: "I am very pleased that commonsense has prevailed. ' ' The New South Wales Acting-Pre-mier, Mr. Baddeley, announced that the settiement of the Kemeira demarcation dispute would come before an arbitrator appointed jointly by the Federal and State Governments. The Minister for Local Government, Mr. Cahill, announced t»hat all restrictions on the use of gas and electricity had been lifted. This means that industry can use power immediately and restrictions in homes have ceased. Widespread confusion was createed in industry today when more than 120,000 workers were stood down because of the Government 's rationing order of two days5 power a week. Now that the restrictions have been lifted practically all factories will be in production again tomorrow.
