Penal Pay Being Sought By Hotel Workers
AUCKLAND, Nov. 6. Negotiations about to be opeued for penal rates bringing tkem into line with. other workers' groups may radicallv change weekend conditions t'or em- i ployees, -in lieeused hotels, private hotels, tearoonis and restaurants. Double time will be sought t'or Sundays and time and a-halt tor Saturdays. This was granted by the Arbitration Court in the iatest award for domestie hospital workers. The seeretary of the New Zealand tiotel, Eestaurants and Related TradeS Cnion (Mr. F. G-. Young) said today that his union wants this principie extended to all of its groups. It is feit that barmen and catering statfs who rorgo weekend leisure to cater for other workers should receive eoinpensation". i Negotiations in Wellington for a new award for licensed hotel workers. are tentatively fixed for November 30 anu Deeember 1, for private hotel employees, Deeember 2 and 3, and for tearoom and restaurant workers Deeember 5 and 7. The union will claim an increase or approximately 10s weekly for all these workers.
