Blood Donors Urgently Required
An effort was made some time ago to form a blood transfusion service in Otaki, wnen many willing to become 'donors submitted their names. The biood bank at the Palmerston North HospAal is now running low, and those who were willing to corae for ward then, and any who are willing now, are asked to contact either Mr. F. Rule, at Otaki Railway, Mrs. W. Wilson or the district nurse, Mrs. Shewry, of Otaki, of Mr. Victor Cottle, at -Te Horo.
Tne question that often arises with prospective 'donors is, "Am I suitabie, and what effect will it have on me?" Good health is a primary essential, but the question of physique does not enter into it, both men and women being equally suitabie. After many years' experience it can be positively stated that there are no lll effects arising from the1 donation of bloo'd. In many cases the donor feeis much better, the, only effect being a feeiing of thirst a few hours later. The method of extraction- is entire'ly painless, and the shortcoming is made up naturally in a few days, leaving the 'donor quite able to redonate again in a month's time if he or sne' desires, althoug'h the minimum period of time between donations given by registered donors is three months.
