South Africa To Restrict lmports

Received Friday, 10.20 a.m. PRETORIA, Nov. 4. The South African Minister of Finance, Mr, N. C. Havenga, announced that restrietions have been decided on by the Government to decrease expenditure on imports. The restrietions will apply to all goods imported from all countries, including those in the sterling area. ' Mr. Havenga stated: "The Un|on's expenditure on imports is still increasing, I cannot allow our gold reserves to be depleted to a dangerous level, and have decided that the time has -arrived to take steps to protect our financial structure." ,
