Public Trust Office In Its 77th Year

Founded in 1872, the Public Trust Office has now completed seventy-six years of service and the continued' confidence Of the public in the office is demonstrated by the fact that during the six months ended September 30, 1948, -more than 4000 new wills appointing' the Public Trustee executor were prepared on behalf of testators and lodged for safe custody,. and a further 3408 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by clients, The number of wills now held in safe custody has reached the record figure of 141,000., During the same period e'states to the value of £4,240,000 were accepted for administration by the Public Trustee. The new mortgage . business was also active and £550,000 was advanced during the period on the security of farms, business prfemises and residences. The interests of clients throughout the Dominion are_ = ser ved by the Public Trustee's' representatives in 100 cities, towns and townships, and a senior officer is now stationed in London to attend to the requirements of clients in England and to transact business for the office in the United Kingdom and Eire and on tho Continent.
