The Candidates
The Constitution establish.es>. ithrea; qualifications for the President. He — it could be "she" — must be a "natura'i Ixorn citizen, " " a resident within the United States for fourteen vears, " and more than 35 years old. The major candidates for the 194S Presidential election were: — Harrv S. Truman (Democratic candidate), President of the United States. Thomas E. Dewey (Republican candidate), Governor of New York State. Henrv A. Wallace (Progressive Party candidate). J. Strom Thurmond (States' Rights Democrats Partv), Goveimor of South Oarolina. Other minor party candidates, representing Communists, Socialists, Vegetarians and Prohibitionists, will be on the balloting sheets for sQme offices, but are not expected to poll more than a handful of votes. Vice-Presidential candidates were: — Alben W.' Barklev (Democrat), a Senator from Jventueky. Earl Warren (Republican), Governor of California. Glen Taylor (Progressive), a Senator,' from Idaho. Fiblding L. Wright (States' Rights Democrat), Governor of Mississippi.
