Band Wants Exclusive Use Of Bandroom

• Seeking the sole use ; of the Levin Borough Couhcil's bandroom in Bath Street, the Levin Munici- ' pal Band wrote to this week's j ineetmg of the council. In its letter the band stated "that it was about to embark on a scheme of individual tuition and would require the room for this purpose-. Supporting the request, Cr. R. AV Frederikson said that the band was en'titled to reasonable facilities for practice. Cr.. A. . J. H. Allen said that this was more reason why the Regent ■Hall renovation project- shoiild be hastened. Perhaps the store room used by the Levin Boxing Club could be cleare dout and used as an alternative room during the off season for meetings and suchlike.

The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, said that tne room was a general lumber room and that . there was not only boxing equipment there. Cr. J. H. Nelson: One or two of the bandsmen who are carpenters are asking why the band cannot build its own room. They would assist in its erection. * The Mayor mentioned that the council had a section at the comer of Montgomery Street which perhaps could be ilsed. Further discussion along these lines then lapsed. The Mayor continued that flnding alternative rooms for the other users of the bandroom would be difficult. * The others had some rights, he added. They had noWhere to go. . Cr. Allen: I think we should get a wrigg^ along with the Regent Hall alterations. After further , discussion the Mayor said that it was not practicabie for the band to be given the exclusive use of the bandroom at present, but suggested that the application be kept in mind. The band was not practising for a contest at the moment. "It is not, hiowever, that we are not sympathetie to their request," he added. It was decided that the band be written to along these lines.
