Personal Mrs. M. McKinnon, of Lower Hutt, has been spending a few "days with her mother, Mrs. Lowry. Mr. and Mrs. W. Wilson, of Main Street, have left for a short holiday visit to Nelson and the Wairarapa. Mrs. M. Richardson, who has resided at Tasman Beach for the past four years, has left to take up residence in Palmerston Nortn. Mrs. J. McChesney, Junr., of Otaki Railway, who recently underwent an operation in the Palmerston North Hospital, is progressing satisfactoriiy. Timber For State House * The long-awaited , additional State houses for Otaki will apparently soon be taking shape, as timber and electric power are on the site in the north end of Matene Street. Card Evening Another fortnightly card evening was held at Tasman Beach in the Anglican Church Hall on Monday night, when there was the usual good attendance. Winners were Mesdames O. J. Dath, H. F. Tews, Rossman an'd H. McCormack, and Mr. W. Feilding. Tennis Courts Relaid Tne working bee held recently at the Otaki Tennis Courts reports having made excellent progress with the renovation and relaying of the courts. Many other necessary improvements were carried out, and the club hopes to have everything in readiness for an early opening 'day.
Rowing Successes Mr. W. James, son of Mr. J. E. James, of the schoolhousd, Otaki, was a highly successful competitor at tne' opening of the rowing season in Wanganui on Saturday. Sixty-four oarsmen were out and James was successful in the quarter-finals, ■ semi-finals and finals, besides being a member of the winning. crew. ' An exhibition run was given by the Aramoho Club, which is to go to Australia next month, of .Which James is a member. Cricket Opening The cricket season opened on Saturday, but there was nothing sensational to report regardilig the two games that Otaki teams participated in. Both teams emerged Victorious, however, and many promising colts were seen in action, which augurs well for the future of the club as tne season progresses. In the game between Paraparaumu and Otaki A teams, pjayed at Otaki, the visitors compiled 82 runs to the home side's 102, the game resulting in a fivepoint win for Otaki, one innings only being played. The junior game between Kuku and Otaki saw Kuku score 21 in their first innings, to which Otaki replied with 26- In the second innings Kuku were all-out for 61, and Otaki declared at 62 for 7. An 8 point win for Otaki was the outcome. •
