WELL-KNOWN CARRYING BUSINESS CHANGES HANDS
Another step has been taken in the advancement of Levin's transport efficiency by the sale of the business of W. Capper and Son, Ltd-, to a group of returned servicemen comprising most of the present stafL Apart from internal changes, this is the first time that this business has changed hands in 27 years, a fact which speak^i for the satisfactory service which it has always sought to render.. The new owners will trade under , the name of W. Capper and Son| (1-948) , Ltd. I This business commericed in . 1921 when Messrs. Faole and Cap-i per purchased the local carrying | business of Messrs. H. Baylis and 1 Sons, comprising two solid tyre Ford trucks. These were soon replaced with more modern vehicles and the business further develop- . ed when, in 1926. with one 30 cwt. j 4-cylinder Graham tr uck, a Levin- 1 eilington service was commeiiced.j With the development of Levin and the surrounding districts the increased work demanded con- : tinual expansion until a fleet of 12 ! vehiqles, including , two 10-ton i articulated carrymores, were re- ! quired to carry out the work. These trucks were, in the main, used in the transport of live'stock, railway v/ork, local and general Carrying and up to foyr vehicles on a LevinWellington daily service. In 1947 \ the livestock licences were disposed of to enable the company to cope with the continually increasing demand for both local and , Wellington work. j With owner-drivers, under the j leadership of Mr. A. ("Sandy") j Thompson, the new company will j endeavour to give the public an! improved service which will merit fcheir continued Support. .They are prepared to handle all types of work and speeialise in the cartage of merchundise, wopl, garden produce, builders' supplies, grain, poultry, furniture removals and a daily Levin-Wellington transport service — No job too toig!— Advt.
