Royalty Will See Hawera's Bunting Three Times!

When the King and Queen and Princess , I^argaret yisit Hawera they wil] pasg down avenues of gay bunting erected for the occasion. What they will not realise, however, is that they will paSS under t'he same bunting when theydrive through Oxford Street, Levin, for, by an arrangement between the Leyin and Hawera Borough Councils, all the flags' and decorations | used on that day will be transported to Levin ahead of tfre Royal ! party, and will be erected in the morning in time to greet them on their arrival here. This will also be the case at Cambridge, for the Levin Borough Council will be required- to pass the bunting forward to that town wh ch is next in succession in this mun, icipal lend-lease. The Mayor of Levin, Mr. H- BBurdekin, Said at last night's meeting of the council that he had first negotiated with the New Plymouth Borough Council to this effect, but had "drawn a blank." Negotiations between himself and the Mayor of Hawera had had better results ^nd an agreement had been made that if a member of the Levin Borough sfaff was sent to Hawera after the function there, the Hawera Borough staff would assist him in dismantling the bunting. The cost of the hire of the bunting wouid be £20. It was unlikely that Levin would receive visits from Royalty often and by the time it was again necessary to buy bunting the cost would probably be cheaper, said the Mayor. At present there wa. a great demand. for it and the price was high. Commenting on these arrangeinentn, Cr. A. J. H. Allen said that the Mayor had done good work and the offer was an excellent one. It was further stated by the Mayor that a meeting of all business people would be called at the Council Chambei/s at 5.15 p.m. on Monday, when the decoration scheme in regard to business premises would be discussed. The business people would be requested, he added, to co-operate by adding to the generai effect.
