Levin School Committee's Meeting

^ r— ^ The usual monthly nieetijig of t'he Levin School Committee " was heid in the school last night, the chairman, Mr, A- C. Kennerley, presiding. Also present were Messrs. r, Long, F, O, Malcolm, WA. whiteman, j. Corry, A, shaw, H. Bqll, D. P, Todd and P, D. Chapman (acting-headmaster) , A letter was received from the Levin Ratepayers' AssbciatiOh sug~ gesting that the committee give favourable consideration to securing some sort of aeeess to and from the school into Durham Street and Weraroa Road. It would be the means of relieving the congestion and minimising any danger to the young children, which would be caused by the heavy traffic on the main road. There would still be congestion at the Durham Street corner, commented Mr. Malcolm. "I notice they don't make any suggestion as to'how we are to secure this property," said Mr, Kennerley, adding that he would move that the letter be received. Permission was granted to the Levin Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club for the use of the school baths von Saturday mornings for leariyers' classes under the supcrvision of a senior member of the club, said the Secretary, Mies L, Franklin, in making the applicationThe Horowhenua Rugby Union wrote in regard to the question of the fence between the school and Rugby Park. At a recent meeting of the management committee ofthe union, this matter had been discussed, said the secretary, Mr. J. E. Fullarton, in the letter. It had been feit that if a gate was placed in the fence it would prevent the fence from being damaged by people elimbing over it, The union was prepared to assist with the expenditure and thought that the school committee would share half the cost. In favour of this move, Mr. Malcolm said that the gate would be better than the stile which was at present in use. The union had been fairly generous in the past. The committee should find out . whafc the cost was • first, said Mr, Shaw. The fence needed repairing, too, he added. It was decided that Mr, Malcolm meet a representative of the union, inspect the fence and report back to the next meeting-
