Big Demand At Sale For Fruit And Vegetables

Messrs. Townsend and Paul, 'Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, • Wellington, report that during the past week there has been a very strong 'demand for" all varieties of fruit and vegetables, % heavy consignments of grapefruit have now eased, the demand and values are accordingly 'down. Hot house tomatoes are coming to hand more freely but there is still a strong demand. In the vegetable ;section all lines are in keen en[quiry. Heavy yardings of poultry !have been offered and values are ■firm witn a good demand. Last week's quotations are as follows:—

Fruit: N.Z. grapefruit, 6s to 12s bushel; sweet oranges, Meyer lemons, mandarins, ceiling price; tree tomatoes, 18s to 35s box; hot house tomatoes, 2s 9d to 3s 3d per pound; passion fruit, 4s 6d to 5s 6d dozen.
