Jolly Crowd Celebrates Hallow'een
Commencing with a street march of the Manawatu and HorOwhenua Pipe Bands, and followed by a ball ih the Regent Hli, members of the Horowhenua S&ottish Society and friends on Saturday night celebrated Halloween in the traditional manner. The hall, which had beeh specially decorat-ed for the purpose by members o\ the band and committee of the society, under the able guidance of Mr. A. Wilkinsoh, presented a particularly pieaSing picture, greenery and thousands of fiowers providing a garden setting. Added to this were the charming dresses worn by the ladies and the tartans of the different clans, all combinihg to make one of the most coloUrful scenes yet seen ih a Levin ballroom. At a suitable juncture during the evening, Mr. J. R-. MaCfariane, chief of the society, took the opportunity of thanking his committee and also the large number of dancers on the fioor, and introduced Mr. V. Nicholson, chief Uf the Manawatu Scottish Society, who congratulated the Horowhenua Society on such a successful funotion, and said how pleased they were to be present. Highlight of the evehing was the piping-in of the haggis in traditional Scottish manner, the rites being performed by Chief . Nicholson and Chieftaih Jack. Dancing was cohtihUed at a ... Tffierry pace uhder the guidance Of Mr. W. Swan. The iadies' committee responsible for the- serving of supper consisted of Mesdames F. Fletcher, j. W. Ciarke, H. Judd, E. Mclntyre, A. Swan, T. Hall ahd H. Frew, Miss J. Munro and lady members of the band.
