The death occurred at Te Wharau yesterday of Mr. Earl Edwin Vennell, aged 65, the former well-known rifle shot and winner of the New Zealand Championship Belt in 1921. Mr. A. A. Vercoe, of Wellington, a former prisoner-of-war who Iwent to London on a rehabilitation bursary to study music, has been granted a scholarship in opera at the Royal College of Music, London. Prior to the commencement of the business at a meeting of the Levin Pipe. Band Contest Committee and Horowhenua Pipe Band on Tuesday evening, the chairman, Mr. J. R. Macfarlane, referred to the death of Mr. M. Kehoe. _ _He said that the value of the tuition given the band by Mr. Kehoe had been shown at the 1947 Napier
contest, and the coming contest m Levin was to have had his services. He extended the members' sympathy to Mrs. Kehoe and family, and those present stood in silence as a mark of respect.
