Summer sport in the Horowhenua district promises to be better and brighter than in past years, provided no interference is experienced through a continuation of the polinmyelitis epidemic. . Most clubs have now recovered from wartime setbacks or recesses and are now forging ahead, with increasing membership and public interest. Softball, a comparatively new sport in the district, is gainmg stiength and has a wide following. It is now setting out to wm the public over. More teams will enter the cricket competition this season than has been the case for a number of years and if games pr°duae more of the bright crisp play which the public ' ™ mipit rally a large number of spectators to the grounds. A new wicket has been laid at the Weraroa Reserve and though it will not be ready for play in the early part of Ihe season, it is to be hoped that some games will be seen there betore the eompetitions conclude. , . d^ldc(; tynnis clubs have commenced activities, while the defence rifle shooting season opened last Saturday. f. 4- ^ot+h.mJen s and adies' bowling clubs are starting and the iact that mdoor bowling has found a niche in Levin's winter sports has done much to keep local players in trim and maintam interest throughout the year. After the dry summer last C1^uet lawns have benefited from the spell, and clubs ot the district are lookmg forward to a good season.
