» ' DUNEDIN, Oct. 11. An. oflQ.cial statement on cliurch union has been released by the Asseftibly of the Congregational "Union, of New Zealand. "It was reported to the Assembly of the Oongregatiorihl Union of New Zealand at ' Dunedin that * tho deeision of the ehurches on ..tiie. pi'o posed basis of uni{)ii, had Teshlted in an equal number of churches being for and against the basis. ' Besides . theso two churches were in favour of the basis with amendments while one church had not yet voted. In aeeordance . with Congregational principles, yoting was elfected by church meetings of the coustituent churches.' The Assembly deeided to reappoint the church union committee with . instructions to review aiul study th.e. deeisioiis of .the churches and to continue diacussions with rppresentatives of'the Presbyterian and .Methodisfe chuiehes/ahd ■ report to .the riext Assembiy.7 ' . ,
