WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Another man was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with what the police alleged was the attempted kidnapping in Wellington on October 5. Accused is Aino Alexander Birch, aged 29, motor engineer. Senior Detective Callaghan, whose application for a remand was granted by the magistrate, Mr. A. A. McLachlan, said that accused would appear jointly on Thursday with the man who had been similarly charged last week. The charge against Birch was that on October 5, at Wellington, he attempted to take away a child, Deborah Janet Todd, aged nine, with intent to deprive her parent, Bryan James Todd, of possession of the child. Repiying to an application for bail by accused's counsel, Senior Detective Callaghan said that accused was arrested by Detective Harper this morning. The charge, which was regarded as one of attempted kidnapping, was very seriousv The accused had already been bailed when he appeared' in the court last week on a charge of being unlawfully in possession of a firearm. Bail was granted at £100, with a surety for the same amount.
