Bowling Club's Successful Opening

Bright sunshine favoured visi- ! tors, memoers and friends who attended tlie opening of- the Otaki Railway Bowling Ciub on Saturday anernoon. Mr. H. Wact- (president) extended a welcome to the visitors and new memioers, and exhorted the oider memoers to /give. newcomers. every encouragement and maxe oue season' a happy one for them. He extended a special welcome to tne ladies and voiced the club's appreciation of their valuable help all times. Mr. J. Kelly, a member who had had lengthy temv in, nospitai was weicomed back, after which Mr: Watt called on Mr. C. F. I Atmore, the club's patron, to open j the green. I Mr. Atmore expressed pieasure | at oeing associated with the welcome to visitors and members, and congratulated the greenkeepers and the committee on tne splendid condition of the green. He considered this a good augury for a j successful season. In declaring the | green open, Mr. Atmore said he was pleased to see that bowlers had "wintered well." He then rolled the kitty and first #bowl of the season. Interesting and keenly *contested games were played, and resulted as follows: Osborne (Waikanae) beat Grey (Otaki) 21—14, H. Watts (Otaki ' .Railway) beat M.cuds (Levin) 19 — 17, Bowater (Levin Central) beat H. Watt (Otaki Railway) 27 — 18, Fraser (Waikanae) beat Henderson (Otaki Railway) 19—14.
