Wind-Up Ball Held

The wind-up ball staged by the Rahui Football Ciub attracted ■ a large crowd- 'to the Te Horo Hall recently. The energetic social committee, had as usual, spared, no effort to cater for the convenience of patrons. The arrangements left nothing to be desire'd and dancers enjoyed themselves to a late hour. Messrs. A. Cook and G. Walker were joint M.C's. At a suitable interval, Messrs. H. Moffatt and F. Rule, assisted by Mr. C. Russell, presented club trophies won during the season, while the chairman of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, Mr. A. Gillespie, presented the WylieKeegan cup to the juniors. Mr. Gillespie referred to the spirit of harmony which had been maintained throughout the season, and congratulated the Rahui coachesi for this highly desirable state ofj affairs. He also made pieasing ; reference to the success enjoyed! during the season, from whic'h the, juniors had emerge'd as runnersup and the thirds occupied a similar position. The fourths, although only in their first year, had also fared quite well. In calling on W. Waaka to accept the Ossie Pussell Cup, Mr. H. Moffatt briefly recalled tne record of Mr. O. Pussell, Who had been one of the first from Otaki to enlist on the outbreak of hostilities and unfortunately the first casualty. These circumstances, the speaker added, ma'de the winning of this cup a great horfour. Presented by the Pussell family, it i was for the best club-spirited third gra'de player, and Mr. Moffatt felt sure all would agree that "Bill" had earned it and thoroughly deserved it. The Ludlam Medal for the most conscientious boy was presented to Aaron Cook, while . the Ludlam Cup for the most improved for- 1 ward was awarded to Doug. Wal-i ker. The Ludlam Cup for the most! improved back went to Wehi j Royal. All of these awards, the ispeakers maintained, had been well earned an'd all who had watched the progress of the players would realise that they had ( gone to lads who had acquitte'd| themselves in no uncertain man-{ ner. The Burley Shield, for thei most conscientious fourth grade J player, was awarded to Alex. Morgan, who had set an example inproving the mainstay of the team ) both and off. the field. i A competition was finalised, Mr.1 C. Garrett being the winner. The.; catering arrangements, which j! called for special mention, were in ' the hands of Mrs. J. Royal. i
