Social Reciprocity For N.Z. And Australia
AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. The Minister of Soeial Seeurity, Mr. Parry, liopes to introduce legislation. ixi the current session of Parliament to provide for an extention of reeiprocal arrangements between Australia and New Zealand for sociai services. This was stated by the Director-General of Sociai Services for Australia, Mr.' F. h. Rowe, before he sailed in the Aorangi for Sydney. For the past six weeks Mr.'Rowe has been in New Zealand discussing fi.nal: details of a scheme for reciprocity. Mr. Rowe said Australia already had reciprocity with New Zealand in regard to invalidity and age benefits and in future it was hoped to include family allowances, widows ' pensions and unemj)loyment and sickness benefits. The scheme would give those moving between Australia and New Zealand the same rights and privileges they would have had they remaiued in their own country. Australia 's sociai ser\dces were upt yet as exteusive as in New Zealaud but steps were being taken to increase the provisions.
