State House Auplications At the meeting of the Shannon Borough Council on Tueisday evening, the State Advances Corporation advised that the number of applicants for State houses in Shannon was 17 civilians and five under the rehabilitation. Many Library Books Out Speaking at the fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council on- Tuesday evening, the town clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, advised that there were still a number of library books out to subscribers. It was decided to notify those holding books to return them as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made for the reopening of the library. Many Local Dances Topiorrow evenhig is to be a busy night for the 'dancing public. At the Druids' Hall the Shannon Football Cluh is holding its windup dance, the proceeds from which are to be donated to an injured member of the club. At the' Moutoa Hall, the Moutoa Young FarmerS' Club is holding its final dance of a very successful series. Both functions should attract the dancing enthusiasts from all parts of the district. Domain Improvement Speaking at Tuesday evening's meeting of the Borough Coimcil, Cr. B. Clayton,' chairman of the reserves committee, reported that Mr. W. L. Carter, of Moutoa, had given a full day with his tractor on the domain and he would retrnrn to do further work at a later date. The council agreed to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Cartor for his services. A letter to the Domain Improvement Committee is also to be forwarded, expressing the council's appreciation of the active part it is taking in improving the domain gromids. Cr. Clayton also reported ' that a working bee at the cemetery had done good work and a furtner community effort would be coatinued in a fortnight. The council is to express its appreciation later.
