WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. When the House of Representatives met today, Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Hauraki, Opposition)) gave notice to ask the Minister of Labour if he could go into the question of granting exemp tion to public spirited citizens from joining- unions when serving on working-bees to create public amenities and improve waste areas in cities and suburbs. Mr. Sutherland said it had been reported tliat the secretary of the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies Labourers' Union had notified the Auckland Junior Chamber of Commerce that if such work was carried out by its members, fhev must join the union, Mr. Osborne: Quite right, too.
