The drug has been in ■ use at the Palmerston North Pub- ! lic Hospital for some time. | Cfiinese Celebrations For the first time in New Zealand's history, a Chinese national sports tournament will be held in Wellington on the occasion of the celebration of the Republic of Chma 'day. The programme will extend over the whole of the: , weekend and1 the finals will be played on Monday, when all Chinese shops in the Dominion will be closed. Basketball, soccer and table tennis will be the main attraetions and teams will be taking part from Hamilton, Canterbury, Palmerston North, Otago, Auckland, Otaki and Wellington. The National chinese Association has laid: aside £100 for the provision of trophies for all events. Teams have been entered from Otaki in the basketball and table tennis events.

Attempt To Convert Cars Awakened in the early hours of this morning to be informed by his parents that tnree youths were pushing his car up the driveway, a Levin taxi dxiver, Mr. A. Easton, rushed outside to see the taxi abandoned in the driveway, the three youths apparently having, been disturbed. In another part of the town a yehicle was taken out of a private garage and left on the side of the road nearby. It is possible that the attempted conversions of these vehieles might have been connected with t'he disappearance from the Boys' Training Centre of three youths, for whom the police and the centre taff were searching all last night." The three youths were appre'hended by the centre staff early this morning and returned to tjh.e institution.
