WELLINGTON, Oct. (5. The Conciliation Council has been sitting in Wellington for the past three days considering claims by the New Zealand Printing Trades Employees' Union for a new award, Mr.' S. Ritchie presiding. The advocates were Mr. R. S. Thomas for the union and Mr. E. W. Clarkson for the emplovers. During the proceediugs the emplovers' representatives intimated that in view of the pronouncement by the Court of Arbitration regarding wages, they were not prepared to accede to claims for increases on the present scale. Home amendments to the existing award provisions were approved by the Council and the sitting was adjourned for four weelcs to allow the union representatives to give further eonsideration to proposals regarding pavment for weekend work in newspap'er ottices.
