Radio "Hams" Form Branch In Levin
i ^pn Thiirteen radio enthusiasts met in Levin on Monday night to form a branch of the New Zealand Assoeiation of- Radio Transmitters. Known to the public as "Hams," they have gradually increased in number over tfne years until now they represent .a sizeable community. The war years put a stop to their activities, but since the end of hostilitieS interest has renewed until now the Dominion membership has practically doubled itself. Bdfore the war district enthusiasts were members of the parent assoeiation, but in order to relieve the strain on the headquarters staff and to bring members closer in touch with" one another, it was recently decided to form branches in the) smaller districts. This is what actuated the formation of the new branch in Levin. Although the ' membership at present stands at 13, it is known that there are more radio enthusiasts in the Horowhenua district, and it is hoped that they will come forward and join the local branch. The branch was last night formally named the Horowhenua branch of the N.Z.A.R.T. and the following officers were elected: — President.: Mr. R. Woodfield (ZL2VN) ; secretary: Mr. R. G. Bennett (ZL2ABQ) ; treasurer: Mr. G. C. Reakes. Members will meet on the first Monday of every month at the houses of the various members. The follo-wing, in addition to the above, are tne local transmitting members and their eall signs, ZL preceding each; Messrs. K. Kirkcaldie (2DS), W. H. Grifflths (2BM) , S. G. Taylor (2GK) , T. G. Gilbert (ADL) , Grange (2AFV) and C. M. Thevenard (21R).
