Personal Miss S. Johnson was a .Shannon visitor to Marton over the weekend. Mr. Colin Mortimer, of Vance Street, left yesterday to spend"j a short holiday with his parents at Auckland. * / ■' ■ Mr. D., Fuller is at present spending a holi'day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. •* Fuller, - Moutoa. Manawatu River Rises Following the recent rain, the Manawatu River has risen considerably. This fresh will c'heck the run of whitebait for some time. Although the season is well advanced, there have been very few catches of any quantity. Preparing for Tennis , There was a good gathering of members of the Shannon Tennis Club on the courts over the weekend to prepare them for the coming season. The groun'ds round the courts and pavilion also -came under the eye of the workers and when the se'ason commences hoth the courts and the surroundings should be in excellent order. Poor Response A very poor response was forth7 coming from the appeal by - the Ratepayers' Association for workers to assist with the tidying up of the cemetery grounds last Saturday. Only five workers turned up, but they were responsible for a large amount of work. It is intended to make a further appeal for a working bee at a later date.
