Personal Mr, A. J.- Pettison, of Matene Street, was on Thursday admitted to the Wellington Hospital. x The death occurred at Otaki on Friday morning of Mr. Kong Fook, a well-known Chinese, aged 84 y'ears. Mrs. Russell Hillas and Miss Beryl Fogden, of Tasman Road, left on Friday for Morrinsville on holiday. Miss B. Noble, of Rangiuru Road, who has been spend^ing a holiday in Wanganui and New .Plymouth, has returned home. Vital Statistics Vital statistics for the month of September are as follows: Births, ;16, including one Maori; deaths one; marriages three. Figures kindly supplied by the registrar, Mr. C. G. Anderson, for tne quarter ending September 30 are: Births, European 39, Maori 7; deaths, European two, Maori two; marriages 15. Shield on Display A very handsome engraved shield for annual competition by junior cycle riders, which, together with a further trophy, .figures as first prize in the 50-mile road race, w'hich is to start from the Otaki Post Office next Saturday, is on display in "The Chronicle" window, Otaki. Between 50 and 60 riders have entered for this year's contest, the first yet to be held. Jockey Injured Following a fall from Beaulitha at the first fence in the Puketoi Hack Hurdles at Otaki on Saturday, the jockey L. Frost was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital with a suspected fracture of an ankle. R. N. Burgess, rider of the favourite, Nullah, who fell shortly after the start of the final event, the Rahui Hack Handicap, escaped with a shaking and cuts on the legs.
