Tribal Committee's War Memorial
Plans prepared for the propose'd Memorial Gate and fence to be erected on the site of the Raukawa marae, to commemorate- the fafien members of the Maori Battalion, have met with -very favourabie comment. They provide for a concrete fence three chains long running tne full length of the front of the marae, this being surmounted with a magnificentiy-carved arch, towering majestically over the open-| ing through which all will have to j pass to enter the grounds. i • Preparations are well in hand, for the commencement of this very imposing structure, the outstanding feature of which wil'l be the ■handsome sets of carving symbolising the arts and crafts of the pioneers of the tribes. The whole should provide a memorial of which all will be justly proud. Permits are to be applied for forthwith for permission to proceed with the work.
